A great week fostering literacy and the creative art of storytelling – Children’s author visits Broken Hill primary schools

Multi-talented children’s author and award-nominated playwright Nathan Luff spent the week visiting primary schools throughout Broken Hill, spreading the joy of language, literacy, and the creative art of storytelling.

Nathan sharing stories with students across Broken Hill

Nathan’s writing workshops and author presentations were inspirational, he certainly kept us all laughing with his engaging storytelling skills and demonstrated some real truths about the power of stories:

·      The best stories happen when things go wrong

·      Telling stories impacts how people feel – it’s a superpower

·      Bringing stories to life is a great adventure

·      Writers get to bully their characters, but characters should respond and fight back

·      Books will build your imagination, and brothers will build your resilience

·      Be grateful when your mum wants to take a photo for the memories (even if there are maggots), so you can share your stories in the future.

We are hugely grateful to Nathan for visiting us and sharing his incredible love of storytelling with the children of Broken Hill. We have no doubt, that he’s inspired a whole new generation of writers.

A big thanks to CKT Speakers Agency for helping us with the logistics and to the team at First National Real Estate Broken Hill for sponsoring Nathan’s visit to each primary school this week. Thanks to you, Nathan was able to offer his writing workshops and author’s presentations at no cost to the schools and students. How amazing is that?! We can’t help but love when businesses in our community get behind children’s learning.

If you’re keen to get your hands on a copy of Nathan’s latest book ‘Jungle Escape’ drop by to grab your copy! On our shelves, we also have the Nerd Herd series and Nathan’s Holiday Disasters books, chockful of great action and fabulous humour for young readers.
