Love Your Bookshop Day

“So often, a visit to a bookshop has cheered me, and reminded me that there are good things in the world.”

- Vincent van Gogh

On Saturday 8th September, we celebrated our first Love Your Bookshop Day as a member of The Australian Booksellers Association. Bookshops play an important role in a community by helping people to find stories to connect with and opportunities to understand the world.

We travelled in our imaginations to India, Africa, France and South America. At each location we enjoyed hearing stories and information about different parts of the world, shared by community members from diverse backgrounds. It was wonderful to see the young participants attempting to learn new words and discovering new cultures. Thank you to the community members who shared their experience and knowledge with us.

The Poet Louise Moriarty then led a workshop on poetry writing based on movement, the senses and circus skills. Each participant wrote a poem about their experience and had a poem written about them by Louise. Everyone, including the parents, enjoyed trying their hand at plate spinning with great success. Thank you Louise for sharing your passion for poetry with us.

A number of young people also created artworks for our Exhibition wall at Big Sky Stories. The works celebrate favourite books that hold a place in our hearts and are a wonderful celebration of why bookshops are so important to us.

Thank you for celebrating Love Your Bookshop Day with us, we cannot wait until next year!
